Retired Virginian Says He Still Can’t Understand How People Could Vote for Trump

A retired veteran, scientist and a lifelong liberal, Bob Scheuplein (age 85), of Stafford, Virginia, talked to us about his concerns about America’s future. A year after the 2016 election, he still cannot understand how people could vote for Trump. He struggles daily living with the reality of an unqualified and unstable commander and chief.

Bob is a voracious reader. When a viewer asked for a good history book, Bob recommended Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin. He also recommends reading Hillbilly Elegy by JD Vance, a memoir about growing up in generational poverty in Appalachia, to better understand Trump voters.
